This site is run by Jon Brooks (The Stoic Handbook). This page explains what personal data I collect, why, and what your rights are. If you have any questions, email jon@stoichandbook.co.
What I collect
- Your name and email address, when you subscribe to the newsletter, join the free challenge, or buy a course.
- Basic analytics data (pages visited, approximate location, device and browser type) collected through my website host and analytics tools.
- Any information you send me directly, for example by email.
Why I collect it
- To send you the emails you signed up for (the weekly newsletter, the challenge sequence, or purchase-related messages).
- To understand which articles are useful so I can make the site better.
- To respond to you when you get in touch.
Legal basis
I process your data on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time, and, for purchases, to fulfil a contract with you.
Who I share it with
I do not sell your data. I share it only with the services that help me run the site, which act as data processors on my behalf. These currently include my website host (Ghost), my email platforms (Kit and Substack), my podcast host (Buzzsprout), my payment processor (Stripe), and my analytics provider (Google). Each has its own privacy policy.
How long I keep it
I keep your subscription data for as long as you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, I remove or anonymise your data within a reasonable period unless I am legally required to keep it, for example purchase records for tax.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access the data I hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to object to or restrict its processing, and to data portability. To exercise any of these, email jon@stoichandbook.co. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Changes
If I change this policy, I will update the date at the top.
